About Us

Henry Keat was established in 1795 by Samuel Keat, a craftsman who made various horns and trumpets for the British Army and, with increasing demand, hunting horns.

The company operated out of Mathias Road, Newington Green, London and served the saddlery trade.  The business was run by the Keat family until the 1980s, when the last member, Daniel, retired and moved to Ilminster.

In 1988 Ian Compton purchased the company with its history and tooling and was fortunate to employ a craftsman who had the skills to make the hunting horns.

The horns are available in three metals: copper, nickel and hallmarked silver. The horns can either be plain or banded.

There are also three types of horn available: the Beaufort has the narrowest mouthpiece and the highest tone; the Berkeley has the narrowest bell and a lower pitch; the Goodall has a much longer and larger bell and - having the deepest tone - is ideal for woodlands.
